DESCRIPTION

The Volkl Revolt 96 is the everyday freestyle ski of the line, a narrower twin that brings a playful, switch-ready attitude to all-mountain skiing. A wood core and a fully twinned, rockered shape give it the quickness and creativity skiers want when they treat groomers, side hits, and the park as one big playground.

The narrower waist makes this the quickest, most park-friendly twin in the Revolt family, snappy from edge to edge and easy to spin. The wood core gives it a lively pop that makes hitting features genuinely fun.

Who it's for:

Intermediate to advanced freestyle skiers who want a versatile twin for the park and the whole mountain. A solid fit for skiers who ride switch, hit jumps and jibs, and want an all-mountain freestyle ride.

Highlights:

The Revolt 96 is built on a multilayer wood core in a simple sandwich construction with full sidewalls, with the flex tuned through core thickness for a lively, park-friendly feel. Its 3D Radius sidecut keeps the narrower shape quick with a long tip radius, a tighter center radius, and an open tail that releases cleanly switch or forward. The fully twinned profile makes switch riding and buttering effortless, while the sub-hundred waist keeps the ski fast edge to edge and at home on firmer snow. The ski length 172 was a little short for me since I prefer a length around 180 but it did well and I still felt like I had a lot of stability.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

I thought this was a fun ski that was able to take on most terrain. It did well when carving on trail allowing for tight turns, but it also handled well in bumps having some forgiveness making them easy to control.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

I find this ski to fit that all mountain category, it was fun on trail and easy in the bumps.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

I think this ski would be best suited for an intermediate to advanced skier looking to get into an all mountain / freestyle ski.

Solid technical skills, mixed with a park background. I'm not the sendiest guy on the hill, but I'll take my share of calculated airs. It's all about finding small transitions and controlling speed for me. Rather than chargey, I'd describe myself as surfy. Lots of edge work and turning skis sideways to manage speed. I enjoy working with the flex pattern of a ski as much as the camber/rocker profile or sidecut of it.

Felt short, but for me a 173 is really short. Being a park ski, I would assume that holds even at the right size for me as the mount point is likely pretty progressive. All that said, I would still buy the ski in my range - likely a little over 180 cm.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

My first impression is that this ski is probably really fun for park skiers who spent their entire day taking park laps. As an all mountain ski it leaves a lot to be desired, but in the park, it seems like it would be really easy to throw around on jumps and rails.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

I would recommend this ski primarily for park laps.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Really any skill level would enjoy this ski, so long as the skier is excited about park skiing.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

The one thing about this ski that I haven’t mentioned yet is that it’s really buttery. For park riders who want to smear lips and landings, this would be an excellent option.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

The Revolt 96 is such a great ski. It's affordable and it's so much fun. The shape is great for anyone who wants to ski park, but also wants something that's fun as an all-mountain ski. The amount of rocker and taper they build into its design gives it a smooth, catch-free feel when you're wiggling through bumps and trees, even with a more centered mount point and a lot of ski behind you. On groomers, I prefer just skiing playfully and popping little 180s everywhere, but you can lay it over and it'll carve if you ask nicely. It's also up there among my favorite park skis just because the shape gives it forgiveness, yet it's a fairly strong build, so you get a lot of confidence for landings.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

You don't have to be a park skier to enjoy it, but it's still best for someone who is at least spending a decent amount of time in the park. If you're not going to utilize its park performance, I would recommend shifting the mount point back a bit for better directional performance.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

It's not the best intermediate park ski, but it's a perfectly good intermediate all-mountain ski. If you're new to the park, something a little narrower could help. Certainly approachable, however, and then some of the best skiers in the world use it as their park ski, so there's really no ceiling for it.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

The Revolt 96 has to be one of the most well-rounded mid-90 twin tips. It's good in the park, it's good on groomers, it's good in bumps, it's really just a straight-forward, good ski. Nothing crazy about it, no wild technology, just a good shape and a good wood core, and that goes a long way. It's really food for a skier who wants a twin tip and doesn't necessarily want to focus on any singular thing. A great all-mountain, do everything ski, especially for younger audiences.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

You really can ski it just about anywhere. I suppose it would get a bit catchy in deep snow, but it can definitely handle some softer snow and even some reasonably depth. Park, groomers, bumps, trees, natural hits, the list goes on and on.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

One thing about it is it's kind of heavy, so that makes it a bit more tiring in the park. I don't think it's the best for an intermediate looking for a park specific ski as a lighter ski would help them progress, but outside of that, it's perfectly appropriate for intermediates all the way through experts.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

I like the purple graphics from 2026 more, but that's a subjective opinion.
